About Us

The Redwood Children’s Center (RCC) was created to support children, teens and adults with developmental disabilities who have been affected by physical, emotional or sexual abuse, trafficking or exploitation, neglect or domestic violence, and their families and caregivers. Our care and services are based on the latest research on trauma prevention for survivors and their loved ones. Services include:

  • Support for the forensic investigation of allegations of abuse, including taped interviews with children, teens and adults with developmental disabilities
  • Referral to free professional counseling and mental health services
  • Referral and access to other helpful community agencies and services
  • Abuse prevention education and resources. Staff visit schools and colleges, and help train law enforcement, county partners and other community agencies.

Many County departments and community agencies work together to provide professional compassionate services, including the Human Services Department Family, Youth and Children’s Services Division, the Sonoma County District Attorney’s Office, various law enforcement agencies and the Sonoma County Department of Health. Additional partner agencies within the Family Justice Center that provide therapeutic and other caring services include the Human Services Department Adult Protective Services, Verity, the YWCA, the Inter-Tribal Council of California, Catholic Charities, Legal Aid and the Council on Aging.

While many California counties provide a place to support children, teens and adults with developmental disabilities affected by abuse, the comfort and care the RCC provides is exceptional. Its physical location within a Family Justice Center, its partnership with organizations involved in investigating and prosecuting cases and healing and helping families, and its highly trained, caring staff means a range of support can be offered all in one building.

The RCC is one of many Children’s Advocacy Centers across the U.S., dedicated to reducing the number of times a child is interviewed during an abuse investigation in order to reduce trauma. RCC is an accredited member of the National Children’s Alliance, the U.S. association and accrediting body for Children’s Advocacy Centers.
